Baby Devin’s parents wanted his newborn session at home for a very good reason – they wanted to include his furry brothers!
We started Devin’s in-home newborn session like I start most of these: in the nursery. A baby is always most comfortable in his own space, and Devin’s adorable nautical nursery was so calming and sweet. We got in some cuddle time with mom and dad, then captured Devin’s funny newborn faces as he lounged in his crib. Then it was time to bring on the dogs!
Another space I like to use for lifestyle newborn sessions is the master bedroom. It’s usually well-decorated and bright, and when we have pups to include, mom’s bed is always the favorite snuggle spot! I love grabbing some candid images of the entire family cuddling up on the bed, and I can always count on dogs to bring some comedy and life to my images. These boys loved the idea of their baby brother, but weren’t so thrilled about touching him! So they kept their distance, even when we moved to the living room.
I always end in-home sessions in a living area. This is where families spend the majority of their time together, and it’s typically a great way to include pets. Dogs love being on couches, especially when they’re off-limits! These sweet boys did great, and were more than happy to lay with their parents and baby brother for some family images. And when we wrapped baby Devin up to grab some formal images, the pups happily laid right down beside him – not too close, though!
Welcome to the world, Devin. You are the best addition to your sweet family, and I know you and the pups will grow up to be best friends!
